September 2020 – ACC NEWS

Friends, while I will be the first to tell you that prayer is a constant line of communication between you and God, I think we currently need to spend more time on our knees.

There is a common understanding in the financial world that if you show me your bank book or bank statement, I can tell you what is most important in your life. What is important to you gets the money.

Likewise, if you showed me your calendar, I could also tell you what is important. What is important to you gets the time. If God is important then we need to make and take the time to communicate with Him.

Covid-19

It is growing more and more obvious that the divide between beliefs is growing faster and faster. From some people being done with the whole thing to others becoming more eager for a countrywide order to stay-at-home, people, for the most part, live somewhere on one side or the other. This, especially as Christians, is detrimental to our unity and community.

Whether it is a hoax or a very real deadly virus, one thing is certain, God is in control. We need to pray that we can put aside our personal beliefs and seek the guidance God is wanting to share with each of us.

Let us also pray that for the sake of our country, our leaders can do the same, and come together with a way for us to unite as a country and bring hope back.

Wildfires

We need to pray for rain, and while I know that is not something that makes harvesters jump for joy, it is something that we need desperately on the west coast. Let us pray for the firefighters, and other personnel that risk their lives to defend the homes and lives of so many.

Again, I know this issue has a division growing within it. People want to shift the blame from one group to another, and maybe there is truth to your point-of-view, but what use is it to be correct and watch the state burn? Instead let us each repent and ask the Lord to heal our land.

As you can probably tell from my sermons and from my words above in the prayer corner, one thing on my mind lately is not only how divided our country is, but how the church is following the world in the division.

It tears me apart to read and hear all the sadness, fear, hatred, and anger from people. These words targeting others who like them believe in our Lord Jesus Christ. Why is it that we allow the worldly trivia to get in front of our heavenly citizenship? Paul writes in Galatians.

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

Galatians 3:26-29 NLT

This isn’t to say that we aren’t to hunger and thirst for righteousness, but instead, we need to do just that, and at the same time make room to be meek and show mercy with one another. Remember, to be meek is when we seek to put others’ needs above our own and to have mercy is to understand when others fail at being meek.

Church we are called to be One in the Spirit, let us do so.
